The Associated Press reports that Mika Brzezinski, the newscaster who recently made headlines herself when she balked at reading a Paris Hilton (the wealthy socialite whose drunk driving conviction resulted in a jail sentence) lead-in story, taking a lighter to the script and then running it through a shredder, has been applauded by the world and by fellow journalists. Brzezinski’s gotten over a thousand e-mails, and was named "woman of the week" by a British Web site. She’s been invited to address a media symposium in Scotland. The New Zealand Herald hailed her: "Deliberate or not, there is no denying the incident struck a chord with viewers the world over. When it comes to Paris, we’ve all had enough. " Brzezinski herself stated, "Among journalists it touched a nerve because I think we're tired of pretending this is important, " she said. "We also know that, deep down inside, our viewers know that we don't believe this is news. They can’t. They can’t think we’re that dumb. " In The URANTIA Book, an archangel informs us that broadcasts are used throughout the universes for a myriad of purposes, including serving those beings who are "dedicated to the preservation of the higher thought of the realms. . . . Before first coming to Urantia[/Earth], I saw records and heard broadcasts of the ideation of some of the great minds of this planet." (p. 503) Perhaps soon the mass consciousness of humankind might be inspired to use the communication technology available on this planet for higher purposes, such as informing and educating on those things which truly serve others and to offer insights of eternal value.
